The American School Religion [08 May 2008|11:33pm] bramcohen Credit scores in the United States are used as the end all and be all of one's credit score, nonsensically used for approving credit cards, mortgages, and rentals, as if those all had the same risk profile. Moody's ratings are being criticized now for being taken as gospel, as if 'AAA rated' was the only useful thing which could be said about an investment. And my cursory research indicates that the same thing is starting to happen with Zillow estimates. It appears to be that as soon as any official rating appears, americans will cease to apply any judgement of their own and simply accept the official number as gospel. It occurred to me today what's going on here. It's the religion of the Grade Point Average. Americans are so completely indoctrinated from a young age that a single official number is the sum total of all that can be said of a person's moral worth that they're psychologically incapable of evaluating people or investments in any other way, even when it's their job to do so. And honestly I was curious about their name so I downloaded this song and LOVE IT. It starts off slow with some piano and then in goes into some jumpy rock. Lots of potential for this band~ Jero- Umiyuki- If I told you that this was enka, that would make you want to listen to this less. But if I told you that Jero was an African-American guy singing in perfect Japanese, you'd download it even if you're just curious. It sounds curiously more pop, but I guess it's still in the enka genre. This song actually is pretty popular in Japan but I think it's because he's trying to introduce enka to the younger generations. MUST DOWNLOAD. M-Flo loves Rie Fu- Float n' Flow- Has a pretty Hawaiian feel, just in time for summer. I actually listen to a lot of Rie Fu now (man I'm old XD) and I love her music. Nice and relaxing. The lyrics for this song are actually pretty romantic (it's in English). Caramell- Caramelldansen (Speedy Cake Remix)- If anyone's been curious as to what song the Uma Uma videos uses, this is it. It's actually a Swedish(?) song that had been remixed, which sounds like they possibly used the VOCALOID program. It's actually really catchy. The Conundrum: I want to do an L cosplay video. The Twist: It will be L playing the VIOLIN! The Predicament, Part 1: I am conflicted with vision/repertoire. It should be without dialog, I think, since I am in fact a female. I know lots and lots of pieces, and I'm torn between Kreisler (Praeludium and Allegro), Vivaldi (Winter, movement 1 or 3), Mendhelssohn (violin concerto in E minor, 1st movement), Paganini (La Camponella), or something by Bach in a minor key, like the first movement to one of his partitas... you know. Or maybe not. But I can't decide. The Predicament, Part 2: I have a brother who looks as much like Yagami Light as I look like L. And he plays the flute. I'd REALLY like to have him in the video, but I have no idea how to propose this, especially if our finished product was going on youtube. The other part is getting someone to film this without thinking that I'm off my rocker. My mom would be like, "What the hell?! If you're going to make a violin video, wear heels and makeup, not homeless-person clothes!" My brother or sister might lose all respect for me, and my father... well, he's still mad at me for stealing some of his favorite shirts. My hair is growing out, so I'm running out of time... Ideas? With lead vocals by YUKI the group's sound bounces between more commercial pop/rock to almost cute sounding punk rock. When listening to JaM you are almost always thrown in to a audio onslaught of music and the somewhat high pitched sound of YUKI's voice. For those to new to either JaM or YUKI I suggest starting with "Sobakasu" which is arguably their most commercial song and was the first opening for the anime "Rurouni Kenshin" and one of my favorites. Confidence... [08 May 2008|03:19am] lilusako [ music | Heather Duby - Judith ] After a long personal battle since yesterday, I went to Hip Kitty after work because it was open mic night, and there was no cover charge. I got there pretty late, but managed to score a seat at the bar before it got busy again. It seems like that place gets busy in waves... where the waves come from I have no idea. I was upset that I went to the club with my sketchbook, but was missing my usual art pen. but lucky enough i had a different type of pen and was able to still doodle in my sketch book. I complete one piece, while an older drawing piece remains unfinished. I'll scan it in while I get the chance. But honestly I was reminded this evening why I truly enjoy going to Hip Kitty. It's all the strangers that I talk to. That place always has such a positive energy that floats around the bar. There were numerous people who stopped to say that my personal artwork was beautiful. I had 3 people ask me/tell me that they would get my art done as a tattoo. They're not the first who have ever told me that actually - i've had a lot of people tell me that my artwork would make a great tattoo... I spoke to Tony who plays Harmonica. I didn't get to hear him play this evening - so I hope that I will be able to the next open mic that I will be able to attend. he told me of some other hip places to go, and we talked about the harmonica and various music styles you can find with harmonica parts. I spoke to Bill who was a local Claremont local, but now lives in Texas and visiting for the time being. He said some really interesting things that he deduced from my art. He said, "You seem to be a delicate, intricate, yet confident person... I have a feeling you must have a difficult time with guys. But don't worry you'll find the right one one of these days." which completely caught me off guard to hear that he felt that through my artwork. He then said to me, "You're a wonderful, great, admirable, artistic and kind person. You don't need a dominant man in your life to trample over you. You don't need a wimp to beg at your feet. You need a confident man in your life because he will be confident enough in understanding what you are all about. You need a confident man just like you." Sometimes strangers say the most strangest things. I think in Japan the last DVD came with a figure of the Shinigami King. Do you think the figures Japan gets are different than ours? Could it be we get a Shinigami King figure too?
